Frequently asked questions.

Concise answers on biochar, verification and partnership. If your question is not covered here, our team will be glad to help.

Fundamentals

What is biochar?

Biochar is a material rich in carbon, produced by heating biomass with very little oxygen. Its porous, stable structure makes it valuable as a soil amendment and as a durable means of carbon storage.

What is bagasse?

Bagasse is the fibrous residue that remains after sugarcane is crushed to extract juice. Sugar mills generate it in large volumes during each harvest.

How does pyrolysis differ from combustion?

Combustion requires oxygen and releases carbon as carbon dioxide. Pyrolysis takes place in a sealed reactor with very limited oxygen, so the majority of the carbon is retained in solid form.

Carbon removal

How is carbon removal verified?

Each batch is weighed, sampled and analysed. Records of production and final use are reviewed by an independent auditor before the registry issues removal certificates.

How durable is the storage?

Biochar is highly resistant to decomposition, so the carbon it contains remains in soil for a very long period, substantially longer than if the residue were burned or left to decay.

Are forward purchases available?

Yes. We offer spot purchases and forward offtake agreements. Please contact us to discuss volumes and timelines.

Working with us

Is Quantum Green new to this sector?

Yes. Quantum Green is a new company in biochar and carbon removal. Its leadership brings over 35 years in timber processing and trade; the pyrolysis line comes from an established equipment partner, and removals are certified independently.

How can a sugar mill become a feedstock partner?

Contact us through the enquiry form. We will arrange a site visit, assess your residue profile and propose a supply arrangement aligned with your harvest calendar.

How should biochar be applied?

Application depends on crop and soil conditions. Technical guidance is provided with every order; blending biochar with compost or fertiliser before application is generally recommended.

How is the facility kept safe for neighbouring communities?

The line incorporates sealed feeding and discharge, exhaust treatment in several stages, continuous temperature monitoring and pressure relief systems.
